Now that I grossed you out from the morning market... let's enjoy the evening market! This one is cooked food, and we enjoy this quite regularly with some really wonderfully tasting stuff.
The night market is a 5 minute walk from our guest house and provides ample opportunity to test out our language skills - bargaining and counting with numbers! The area is a parking lot that is empty by day and set next to the local temple area. It looks much larger than it actually is because all the stands are packed together. There is a sitting area with small tables and awnings for the rain. The tables have colored toilet paper for napkins, chopsticks, and some glasses to pour out water to drink.
The assortment of food at the night market ranges from grilled chicken, fish, and ribs to liver, chicken leftover parts, nearly developed chicken eggs, and various sauces for sticky rice. Several must-try items are the fried spring rolls, sticky rice with some spicy sauce, and these donut looking desserts.
The average price for a good meal is around 20-30,000 kip (once again pronounced like the word 'keap') or about $2.50 to $3.50 American dollars.
These eggs are fully developed eggs that have small birds in them but haven't quite hatched... tune in soon for the story and pics of when I tried one:
